For the fourth part of my copywriting critique series, one of my students submitted email copy to be reviewed. It’s a sales email promoting copywriting coach services. Some of the main takeaways from this critique are:

  • Curiosity in the subject line and preview text is a powerful way to boost open rates and performance. Write several of them and pick the best one.
  • Make your sales copy emotionally compelling. Help the reader generate desire for the offer by using storytelling and anecdotes.
  • Create a sense of urgency or scarcity to promote action in the P.S. section.
  • Always elaborate on the benefits of the product or offer. Features are factual, and benefits are what the features do for the customer.
  • Leverage social proof like testimonials to build trust and credibility. Most consumers want to see reviews before purchasing a product or service.
  • Hit the pain points of the reader. What keeps them up at night and what do they struggle with?
